It’s been a long time coming but I’m so excited to start sharing more details about the interior of our home! We finished building our dream home just over a year ago, and it’s been so incredible living in a house that we were able to completely design for ourselves. Now that we’ve lived here a year, I’m taking the time to share the different spaces of our house! With the newest addition to our family, I thought it was only fitting that I would share details on our nursery first!
When designing the nursery, we wanted to be able to use as many items as possible that we either already owned, for example our dresser. We really loved the dresser before, but decided to give it a little makeover before bringing it into the space! We painted over the original grey wash color with this beautiful green, and swapped the original black hardware for an antique brass. Besides the dresser, we were able to incorporate items, such as the mirror and pouf, that we already had from the previous nursery!
In the nursery, we have all of your typical essential items – a crib, dresser, rocker/glider, small side table, and window coverings. I really love having a small side table next to the glider so I have a place to set down my phone, water, or whatever else I may want to have easy access to when in the chair for an extended amount of time (nursing, rocking to sleep, etc).
For the window treatments, we knew we needed something that would create complete darkness in the room, even in the middle of the day, to make it easier for the baby to sleep. To do this, we decided to add both a blackout woven wood roman shade and blackout curtains. The roman shades were almost perfect by themselves to make the room completely dark, but they sit slightly off the wall, which allowed a small portion of light to come through on either side. To alleviate this issue and elevate the design (win-win) we added the additional decorative panels with a blackout liner.
All of the additional decorative elements to the room, for instance, the faux tree, once baby reaches a certain age I’ll probably have to remove nonessential decor items out of the nursery, but until then, I love how this room feels like an extension of our home!
